The 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, known as the "Black Lions," is a storied unit of the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division. Activated during World War I, the battalion gained notable distinction in World War II, participating in the Normandy landings and the Battle of the Bulge. In the Vietnam War, the 2/28th became renowned for its valor during operations such as the Battle of Ong Thanh in 1967.
