The 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment (2/13th Infantry) traces its origins to the 13th Infantry Regiment, first constituted in 1861 and earning distinction in the American Civil War. Over its long history, the battalion saw action in major conflicts including the Indian Wars, World War II, and the Vietnam War, where it served with valor as part of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. During the Vietnam conflict, 2/13th Infantry participated in significant operations around Saigon and the Mekong Delta, engaging in both offensive sweeps and defensive operations. In recent years, the battalion has played a key role as part of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), preparing new generations of soldiers at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
