The 201st Engineer Company (Atomic Demolition Munitions), or 201st Engineer Company (ADM), was a specialized unit of the U.S. Army Reserve during the Cold War. Activated in the late 1950s, the unit was trained in the deployment, emplacement, and detonation of atomic demolition munitions—small, portable nuclear devices intended to destroy key infrastructure or deny terrain to enemy forces in the event of a Soviet invasion of Europe. The 201st Engineer Company (ADM) played a critical role in NATO’s tactical nuclear deterrence strategy, operating under strict secrecy and with rigorous technical training. The unit was deactivated in the late 1980s as U.S. military doctrine shifted away from tactical nuclear weapons and the threat of large-scale conventional warfare in Europe diminished.
