The 1st Battalion, 12th Field Artillery Regiment (1-12 FA) traces its origins to the 12th Field Artillery, which was constituted in 1916 and first activated at Camp McClellan, Alabama, in 1917. The unit served with distinction in World War I as part of the 2nd Infantry Division, participating in major campaigns such as Aisne-Marne and Meuse-Argonne. Throughout World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, the 1-12 FA continued to provide critical artillery support, earning multiple unit commendations for its actions. In modern times, the battalion has supported operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, maintaining its reputation for excellence in fire support within the U.S. Army.
