The 3rd Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment (3/39 INF) has a distinguished history dating back to its service in World War II, where it fought in the European Theater under the 9th Infantry Division. During the Vietnam War, the 3/39 INF served with distinction in the Mekong Delta region, conducting search-and-destroy missions and counterinsurgency operations. In later years, elements of the 39th Infantry Regiment were reflagged and reorganized as part of the U.S. Army's modular force structure.
