The 1st Missile Battalion, 34th Artillery (1st Missile Bn, 34th Arty), was a United States Army unit activated during the Cold War era to provide surface-to-surface missile support. Equipped initially with the MGM-5 Corporal missile and later with the MGM-29 Sergeant missile system, the battalion played a vital role in the U.S. Army’s tactical missile forces in Europe. Stationed primarily in West Germany, the 1st Missile Battalion, 34th Artillery, was responsible for nuclear-capable missile operations as part of NATO’s deterrence strategy against the Soviet Union.
