The 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment (1-8 IN), known as the "Fighting Eagles," is a distinguished unit of the U.S. Army with a lineage dating back to 1838. The battalion has participated in major conflicts, including the Civil War, World Wars I and II, Vietnam, and the Global War on Terrorism, earning numerous campaign streamers and unit citations. During the Vietnam War, 1-8 IN played a crucial role in operations such as the Tet Offensive and was later pivotal in deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, engaging in both combat and stability operations. Today, the unit is assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, continuing its tradition of excellence and service.
