• In 1943, the 187th Infantry Regiment was activated at Camp Mackall, North Carolina, as part of the 11th Airborne Division. • During World War II, the 187th Infantry Regiment participated in the Battle of Leyte in the Philippines. • The 187th Infantry Regiment is known for conducting the first combat jump in the Korean War on October 20, 1950, at Sunchon and Sukchon. • During the Vietnam War, the 187th Infantry Regiment was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division and participated in numerous combat operations. • The 187th Infantry Regiment earned the Presidential Unit Citation for their actions during the Battle of Dak To in Vietnam in 1967. • In 2004, the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. • The 187th Infantry Regiment is currently headquartered at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. • The regimental motto of the 187th Infantry is "Let Valor Not Fail." • The 187th Infantry Regiment has a long and proud history of service dating back to its activation over 75 years ago. • The 187th Infantry Regiment has received numerous awards and decorations for their bravery and sacrifice in combat throughout their history.
