• Formation: The 17th Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery (17th Fd Regt, RAA) was originally raised during World War I and has undergone several reorganizations since. • World War II Service: The regiment served with distinction in the Pacific Theatre, providing artillery support in campaigns such as New Guinea and Borneo. • Post-war Reformation: The unit was reformed post-WWII as part of the Citizen Military Forces (CMF), later renamed the Army Reserve. • Territorial Roots: The 17th FRS FA traditionally drew its members from New South Wales, fostering strong community ties. • Modernization: The regiment was among the first Reserve artillery units to transition from the M2A2 Howitzer to the more modern L119 Hamel Gun in the 1980s. • Alliance: The 17th Fd Regt, RAA has maintained regimental alliances with several Commonwealth artillery units, strengthening international military bonds. • Peacekeeping Contributions: Members have volunteered for overseas deployments on peacekeeping and operational service, including in East Timor and the Solomon Islands. • Community Engagement: The unit is active in Anzac Day parades, local commemorations, and military history education in regional NSW. • Amalgamation: In 2013, the 17th Fd Regt, RAA was amalgamated with the 23rd Field Regiment to form the 23rd Regiment, RAA, continuing its traditions under a new banner. • Regimental Motto: The unit's motto, "Ubique" (Latin for "Everywhere"), reflects the Royal Artillery’s tradition of being with every major force wherever needed.
