The 143rd Air Defense Artillery (ADA) traces its origins to the Texas National Guard, with roots dating back to the early 20th century. Initially constituted as coastal artillery, the unit has undergone several reorganizations and redesignations, adapting to evolving air defense missions. During the Cold War, the 143rd ADA was equipped with advanced missile systems to protect critical infrastructure and population centers. Today, the unit remains a key component of the Texas Army National Guard, dedicated to providing air defense capabilities and supporting both state and federal missions.
