The 135th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) was an essential medical unit within the United States Army, activated during the Korean War to provide rapid surgical care near the front lines. Known for its mobility and ability to set up operations quickly under combat conditions, the 135th MASH saved countless lives by stabilizing wounded soldiers before evacuation to larger medical facilities. Throughout its service, the unit adapted to advances in battlefield medicine, including improved triage techniques and the use of helicopters for medical evacuation. The legacy of the 135th MASH contributed to the evolution of modern forward surgical teams in today’s military medical corps.
