**1st Battalion, 26th Marines (1/26):** The 1st Battalion, 26th Marines (1/26), was activated during World War II as part of the 5th Marine Division and participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945. After World War II, the battalion was deactivated and later reactivated for service during the Vietnam War. In Vietnam, 1/26 saw significant combat action, notably participating in the defense of Khe Sanh during the 1968 siege. The battalion earned numerous commendations for its valor before being deactivated following the end of U.S. ground combat operations in Vietnam.
