• Origins: The 125th Signal Battalion traces its roots back to World War II, first constituted on 3 February 1942 in the Army of the United States as the 125th Signal Company, assigned to the 25th Infantry Division. • World War II Service: The unit earned campaign participation credit for major World War II campaigns, including Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons, and Luzon, providing critical communications support in the Pacific Theater. • Korean War Valor: The 125th Signal Battalion played a significant role during the Korean War, supporting the 25th Infantry Division in key operations and earning several campaign streamers and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. • Vietnam War: The Battalion was heavily engaged in the Vietnam War, supporting combat operations and ensuring reliable communications in challenging jungle and mountainous environments. • Meritorious Unit Commendation: The Battalion received the Meritorious Unit Commendation for its outstanding performance in Vietnam from 1966–1968 and 1968–1969. • Distinctive Unit Insignia: The 125th Signal Battalion's insignia features a gold colored device symbolizing excellence and its connection to the 25th Infantry Division, known as "Tropic Lightning." • Role in Modernization: The Battalion was at the forefront of Army signal modernization, fielding new communications technology such as the Mobile Subscriber Equipment (MSE) system in the 1980s and 1990s. • Humanitarian Missions: Members of the Battalion participated in humanitarian missions, such as disaster relief operations in the Pacific, demonstrating the unit’s versatility beyond combat roles. • Inactivation: As a result of Army transformation initiatives, the 125th Signal Battalion was inactivated on 15 October 2005 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, after over 60 years of distinguished service. • Legacy: The unit's legacy continues through its veterans and its contribution to the success of the 25th Infantry Division, as well as its role in developing and maintaining vital Army communications capabilities.
