The 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment (Mechanized), has a distinguished history dating back to its inception in 1861. During the Cold War, the battalion was stationed at Camp Casey, South Korea, as part of the 2nd Infantry Division, serving as a key element in the defense of the Korean Peninsula against potential aggression from North Korea.
