The 117th Aviation Company, known as the "Sidewinders," was a distinguished U.S. Army aviation unit formed during the Vietnam War. Activated in 1963, the unit was primarily equipped with UH-1 Huey helicopters and tasked with air assault, troop transport, and resupply missions in support of ground operations. The 117th Avn Co operated extensively throughout the Central Highlands and other key combat zones, playing a vital role in numerous operations and earning several commendations for valor and effectiveness under fire. After years of dedicated service, the company was eventually inactivated following the drawdown of U.S. forces from Vietnam.
