The 116th Assault Helicopter Company (AHC), known as the "Hornets," was activated in 1965 and served prominently during the Vietnam War. The unit was tasked with providing air mobility, including troop transport, resupply, and close air support, utilizing UH-1 "Huey" helicopters. The 116th AHC participated in numerous combat operations across South Vietnam, earning a reputation for bravery and effectiveness under fire. The company was deactivated following the drawdown of U.S. forces in Vietnam, but its legacy endures through the valor and sacrifices of its members.
