The 1st Battalion, 149th Infantry Regiment (1/149th IN), Kentucky Army National Guard (KYARNG), traces its lineage to militia units formed in Kentucky in the early 19th century. The unit has served in various conflicts, including the Civil War, World War I, and World War II, often earning distinction for its service and adaptability. In recent decades, the 1/149th has participated in homeland defense, disaster relief, and overseas deployments, including missions in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of the Global War on Terrorism. Today, the battalion remains an integral part of the 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, upholding a proud tradition of service and readiness within both the state and the nation.
