1:1 ADA

• The 1/1 ADA (1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment) was originally activated in 1907 as the 104th Company, Coast Artillery Corps. • During World War II, the 1/1 ADA served in the Pacific theater, participating in the Battle of Bataan and the defense of Corregidor. • In 1960, the unit was reorganized and redesignated as the 1/1 ADA, focusing on air defense missile systems such as the Nike Hercules. • The 1/1 ADA deployed to Vietnam in 1965, where they provided air defense for American forces and installations. • During the Gulf War in 1990-91, the 1/1 ADA deployed to Saudi Arabia to provide air defense for coalition forces during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. • In 2003, the 1/1 ADA deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, providing air defense against enemy aircraft and missiles. • In 2011, the 1/1 ADA deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, providing air defense for coalition forces and installations. • The 1/1 ADA has received numerous awards and decorations for their service, including multiple Meritorious Unit Citations and Campaign Participation Credits. • The unit is currently stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, where they continue to train and deploy in support of air defense missions around the world. • Throughout its history, the 1/1 ADA has demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence and professionalism in defending the skies and protecting American forces and allies.
