544th Bomb Squadron

The 544th Bomb Squadron was activated in December 1942 as part of the 384th Bombardment Group during World War II. Flying B-17 Flying Fortresses from England, the squadron participated in strategic bombing campaigns over Nazi-occupied Europe, including key missions against industrial targets in Germany and occupied France. The unit earned two Distinguished Unit Citations for its courage and effectiveness in combat.
