• Establishment: The United States European Command (EUCOM) was established on August 1, 1952, in response to the growing tensions of the Cold War and the need for unified command of U.S. forces in Europe. • Location: EUCOM’s headquarters is located in Stuttgart, Germany, at Patch Barracks, having moved there from Frankfurt in 1967. • First Commander: The first commander of EUCOM was General Matthew B.
