**Desert Storm** refers to the codename for the coalition military operation during the Gulf War in 1991, rather than a specific unit. Operation Desert Storm was launched by a U.S.-led coalition to liberate Kuwait from Iraqi occupation. Beginning on January 17, 1991, the operation commenced with a massive air campaign, followed by a swift ground assault starting February 24.
