60th Medical Group

• Origins: The 60th Medical Group (60 MDG) is part of the 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis Air Force Base, California. It traces its roots to the original activation of the 60th Medical Group on 1 July 1948 in Germany as part of the United States Air Forces in Europe. • David Grant USAF Medical Center: The 60 MDG operates within the David Grant USAF Medical Center, which is the Air Force’s flagship hospital on the west coast and one of the largest military medical centers in the U.S. • Humanitarian Missions: The 60 MDG has supported numerous humanitarian missions worldwide, including disaster relief for earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes, providing critical care in austere environments. • Contingency and Aeromedical Evacuation: The Group plays a vital role in rapid aeromedical evacuation, transporting wounded service members from conflict zones to advanced care facilities. • Research and Innovation: The 60 MDG is known for its contributions to military medicine, including research in trauma care, patient transport, and infectious disease management. • COVID-19 Response: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the 60 MDG was at the forefront of the Air Force’s response, establishing testing sites, treating patients, and supporting Operation Warp Speed. • Teaching Hospital: The unit is a major teaching hospital, training hundreds of military and civilian medical professionals annually in partnership with the Uniformed Services University and local institutions. • Veteran and Family Care: The 60 MDG provides comprehensive care not only to active duty members but also to veterans and their families, serving a catchment area of over 500,000 beneficiaries. • International Collaboration: The Group regularly engages in joint exercises with allied nations, sharing best practices in field medicine and disaster response. • Recognition: The 60th Medical Group and David Grant USAF Medical Center have received numerous awards, including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for excellence in patient care and mission support.
