The 539th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron (539 FIS) was an active United States Air Force unit during the Cold War era. Originally constituted during World War II, it was later reactivated in the 1950s as part of the Air Defense Command, tasked with defending the northeastern United States against potential Soviet bomber attacks. The squadron operated advanced jet interceptors such as the Northrop F-89 Scorpion and later the Convair F-106 Delta Dart, reflecting the rapid technological advancements of the period.
