521st Air Mobility Operations Wing

• The 521st Air Mobility Operations Wing is based at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. • It is one of the busiest air mobility wings in the Air Force, providing airlift and aerial refueling support to U.S. and NATO forces in Europe and Africa. • The wing was activated on January 1, 1992, and has since played a key role in numerous military operations, including Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. • The 521st AMOW operates a variety of aircraft, including C-130 Hercules, C-17 Globemaster III, and KC-135 Stratotanker. • The wing is divided into multiple groups, including the Operations Group, Maintenance Group, Medical Group, and Mission Support Group. • In 1994, the 521st AMOW was awarded the Mackay Trophy for the most meritorious flight of the year for its role in Operation PROVIDE COMFORT in northern Iraq. • The wing has a long history of humanitarian missions, providing disaster relief and humanitarian assistance to countries in need. • In 2018, the 521st AMOW supported the NATO-led mission to deliver humanitarian aid to war-torn areas in Syria. • The wing has a strong partnership with the German Air Force and regularly collaborates on joint training exercises and operations. • Members of the 521st AMOW have received numerous awards and decorations for their outstanding service and dedication to duty.
