The 51st Munitions Maintenance Squadron (MMS) was an integral unit of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) of the United States Air Force during the Cold War era. Activated in the 1960s, the squadron was responsible for maintaining, storing, and handling nuclear and conventional munitions to support SAC's strategic bombing missions. Stationed at various bases, including RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom, the 51st MMS played a crucial role in ensuring the readiness and effectiveness of SAC's nuclear deterrent forces in Europe. The unit was eventually inactivated as SAC underwent restructuring and changes in the U.S. nuclear posture at the end of the Cold War.
