• Originally activated as the 48th Pursuit Wing in 1940 • The 48th Fighter Wing was the first unit to receive the F-15 Eagle in 1977 • During the Gulf War in 1991, the wing flew over 3,100 combat missions • The wing's motto is "Can Do, Will Do!" • In 2018, the wing participated in Arctic Challenge Exercise, a multinational training event • The wing's aircraft have participated in numerous NATO exercises and deployments • The wing is based at RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom • In 2013, the wing hosted an airshow that attracted over 150,000 spectators • The wing has received numerous awards for its excellence in combat operations • The wing has a long history of partnership with other allied air forces
