The 4535th Combat Crew Training Squadron (CCTS), part of the Tactical Air Command (TAC), was activated in the early 1960s at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. Its primary mission was to provide transition and combat crew training for pilots in the F-4 Phantom II, one of the era’s most advanced fighter-bombers. The squadron played a significant role in preparing aircrews during the Vietnam War buildup, ensuring the rapid expansion of qualified F-4 crews. In 1966, as part of a wider Air Force reorganization, the 4535th CCTS was inactivated and its mission was absorbed by operational squadrons within the newly formed 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing.
