The 439th Tactical Airlift Wing (439th TAW) was a unit of the United States Air Force Reserve, activated in the 1960s to provide tactical airlift capabilities. Originally equipped with C-119 Flying Boxcars and later transitioning to C-130 Hercules aircraft, the wing supported airlift operations, paratroop drops, and cargo missions during the Vietnam War era and the Cold War. The 439th TAW participated in numerous training exercises and real-world missions, both domestically and internationally, showcasing its rapid deployment and logistical support abilities. In 1992, the unit was redesignated as the 439th Airlift Wing and became part of the Air Mobility Command, stationed at Westover Air Reserve Base, Massachusetts, where it continues its mission with C-5M Super Galaxy aircraft.
