437th Airlift Wing

• The 437th Airlift Wing was activated on January 1, 1969 at Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina. • During the Vietnam War, the 437th Airlift Wing participated in airlift missions to Southeast Asia. • In 1997, the 437th Airlift Wing was awarded the Mackay Trophy for outstanding airmanship for a mission flown in response to Hurricane Nora in Mexico. • In 2001, the 437th Airlift Wing played a key role in airlifting supplies and personnel to Ground Zero after the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York City. • Members of the 437th Airlift Wing have served in numerous humanitarian missions, including providing aid to victims of natural disasters around the world. • In 2012, the 437th Airlift Wing was involved in Operation Unified Response, providing relief to Haiti after a devastating earthquake. • In 2015, the 437th Airlift Wing relocated to Joint Base Charleston, a new joint base formed by the consolidation of Charleston Air Force Base and Naval Weapons Station Charleston. • The 437th Airlift Wing has a long history of excellence in training and educating Airmen, ensuring they are prepared for any mission they may face. • The 437th Airlift Wing has received numerous awards for its outstanding performance, including multiple Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards. • Today, the 437th Airlift Wing continues to serve as a vital part of the United States Air Force, providing airlift capabilities to support national defense and humanitarian missions around the world.
