436th Airlift Wing

• The 436th Airlift Wing is stationed at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. • It was activated on January 1, 1943 as the 436th Troop Carrier Group during World War II. • The 436th Airlift Wing has been involved in various major conflicts such as the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Desert Shield/Desert Storm. • In 2003, the 436th Airlift Wing played a key role in Operation Iraqi Freedom by airlifting troops and supplies into Iraq. • The wing is known for its air mobility capabilities and frequently conducts airlift and airdrop missions around the world. • The 436th Airlift Wing was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for its actions during the Normandy invasion on D-Day in 1944. • In 1961, the wing was redesignated as the 436th Military Airlift Wing and later as the 436th Airlift Wing in 1992. • The wing has a long history of humanitarian missions, providing relief in the aftermath of natural disasters and supporting peacekeeping operations. • In 1997, the 436th Airlift Wing set a world record for the most cargo dropped in a single pass during training exercises. • The wing is composed of several squadrons and supports a variety of aircraft, including the C-5M Super Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster III.
