374th Airlift Wing

• In 1942, the 374th Airlift Wing was activated as the 374th Troop Carrier Group during World War II. • The Wing has participated in numerous operations including Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, and humanitarian missions after natural disasters. • From 1974 to 2006, the Wing was stationed at Yokota Air Base in Japan. • The Wing's motto is "The Key to the Pacific." • The 36th Airlift Squadron, a part of the 374th Airlift Wing, was awarded the Mackay Trophy in 2005 for their efforts in Operation Unified Assistance, the relief efforts after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. • The Wing's C-130 Hercules aircraft have been used for a variety of missions including airdrops, evacuations, and transporting personnel and equipment. • The Wing has been awarded numerous decorations including the Gallant Unit Citation and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. • In 1993, the Wing supported the evacuation of U.S. citizens from Somalia during Operation Continue Hope. • During the Vietnam War, the Wing was involved in a number of combat missions and airlift operations in Southeast Asia. • The Wing has a long history of working with partner nations in the Asia-Pacific region to promote regional security and cooperation.
