About 349th Air Mobility Wing

The 349th Air Mobility Wing is a unit of the United States Air Force Reserve based at Travis Air Force Base in California. The wing is responsible for providing global airlift and aerial refueling capabilities in support of national security objectives. It operates a variety of aircraft, including the C-5 Galaxy and KC-10 Extender, to transport personnel, equipment, and supplies around the world. • The 349th Air Mobility Wing is based at Travis Air Force Base in California. • It was established on July 14, 1947 as the 349th Troop Carrier Wing. • The wing has participated in numerous humanitarian and disaster relief missions, including Hurricane Katrina and the earthquake in Haiti. • The 349th has a long history of providing airlift support to the United States military during times of conflict. • In 2015, the wing set a world record for the largest formation flight with 27 C-5 Galaxy aircraft flying in formation. • The 349th has received several awards and recognitions, including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award. • The wing is capable of providing a wide range of airlift and aerial refueling missions in support of global operations. • In 2003, the 349th deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. • The wing played a key role in the evacuation of American citizens from Kabul, Afghanistan in August 2021. • The 349th Air Mobility Wing continues to be a vital asset in supporting military operations around the world.
