325th Fighter Wing

• The 325th Fighter Wing was established in 1948 as the 325th Fighter Group, and later became a wing in 1992. • During World War II, the 325th Fighter Group was known as the "Checkertail Clan" and flew missions in North Africa and Italy. • In 1944, the Checkertail Clan was the first Allied fighter unit to penetrate German airspace and engage the enemy over the Reich. • The 325th Fighter Wing is based at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida and is responsible for training F-22 Raptor pilots. • In 2018, the 325th Fighter Wing evacuated all aircraft and personnel from Tyndall AFB due to Hurricane Michael, which caused significant damage to the base. • The 325th Fighter Wing has won numerous awards and accolades, including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award. • In 2016, the 325th Fighter Wing conducted a joint training exercise with the Royal Air Force at Tyndall AFB, showcasing the close partnership between the two air forces. • The 325th Fighter Wing played a crucial role in Operation Desert Storm, flying combat missions over Iraq and Kuwait in support of coalition forces. • In 2003, the 325th Fighter Wing deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, providing close air support for ground troops and conducting reconnaissance missions. • The 325th Fighter Wing continues to train and prepare pilots for combat operations, upholding their legacy as one of the Air Force's premier fighter wings.
