About 301st Fighter Wing

The 301st Fighter Wing is a reserve unit of the United States Air Force, based at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas. It operates and maintains the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, providing combat-ready forces for worldwide deployment and combat operations. The wing also supports the Air Force mission by providing unique capabilities such as homeland defense, air interdiction, and close air support. Additionally, the 301st Fighter Wing participates in various exercises and training events to maintain readiness and effectiveness.

Historical Facts

• The 301st Fighter Wing was originally activated in 1942 as the 301st Bombardment Group during World War II. • During WWII, the 301st flew B-17 Flying Fortresses in combat missions over Europe. • The 301st Fighter Wing was redesignated as a fighter unit in 1951 and flew F-84 Thunderjets during the Korean War. • The 301st Fighter Wing was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation for its actions during the Korean War. • In 1969, the 301st was reactivated as a tactical fighter wing and flew F-100 Super Sabres during the Vietnam War. • The 301st Fighter Wing participated in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, flying F-16 Fighting Falcons. • In 2000, the 301st Fighter Wing transitioned to the F-16CJ model and was redesignated as the 301st Fighter Wing. • The 301st Fighter Wing has been deployed multiple times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. • The 301st Fighter Wing is based at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas. • The 301st Fighter Wing continues to train and deploy with the latest fighter aircraft to support U.S. national security interests around the world.
