20th Fighter Wing

• The 20th Fighter Wing was originally activated in 1947 as the 20th Fighter Bomber Wing, flying F-84 Thunderjets. • During the Korean War, the 20th Fighter Wing deployed to Korea and flew combat missions in support of United Nations forces. • In 1968, the 20th Fighter Wing flew combat missions during the Vietnam War, providing close air support to ground troops. • The 20th Fighter Wing has been stationed at various bases around the world, including RAF Upper Heyford in England and Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. • The 20th Fighter Wing played a key role in Operation Desert Storm, flying missions in support of coalition forces during the Gulf War. • In 2001, the 20th Fighter Wing deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, flying combat missions against Taliban and Al-Qaeda targets. • The 20th Fighter Wing has won numerous awards and decorations for its exemplary performance in combat operations and training exercises. • In addition to its combat missions, the 20th Fighter Wing has also been involved in numerous humanitarian missions around the world, providing aid to communities in need. • The 20th Fighter Wing continues to train and deploy with the latest aircraft and technology to ensure readiness for any future missions. • Throughout its history, the 20th Fighter Wing has demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence, professionalism, and service to its country.
