11th Wing

• The 11th Wing was established on March 10, 1941, at Hickam Field, Hawaii, as part of the U.S. Army Air Forces. • During World War II, the 11th Wing served in the Pacific Theater and played a key role in the air campaign against Japan. • After the war, the 11th Wing was stationed in Germany as part of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe, where it supported NATO operations during the Cold War. • In 1994, the 11th Wing moved to Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., where it provided air support for the President and other high-ranking officials. • The 11th Wing has participated in numerous humanitarian missions, including providing aid to victims of natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes. • In 2001, the 11th Wing played a key role in the response to the terrorist attacks on September 11th, providing air defense for the nation's capital. • The 11th Wing has received numerous awards and decorations for its service, including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. • In 2012, the 11th Wing was redesignated as the 11th Wing and the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, reflecting its joint operations with other branches of the military. • The 11th Wing is currently responsible for providing security, logistical support, and ceremonial services for the National Capital Region. • The motto of the 11th Wing is "Aim High … Fly-Fight-Win," reflecting its commitment to excellence in all aspects of its mission.
