Robin (Wetherbee) (Hamel) Tzivanis
I was in the 338th General Hospital, Hosreheads, NY detachment, duty assignment the physical exam team at the Senaca Army Depot, starting in 1987. I was a Nurse Corps Officer. I thought the unit's designation was changed to a combat hospital but I don't find any listing of that in the drop box. I was never activated. During Desert Shield/Desert Storm, our unit was used to back fill stateside positions, most of our enlisted were sent to Oman, and 75 nurses were held for potential deployment if needed in a ground war. That, of course, never happened. The officers I know provided very frank feedback that breaking up the unit was extremely difficult for us and wasn't the way we'd prepared. I have lost the things I kept (hat, dog tags, insignia, etc). I joined the unit too late for AT in 1987, so I went with a few others who missed to my first AT at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and worked at the BACH in 1988, then Camp Shelby 1989, Fort Stuart 1990, Officer's Basic at San Antonio during the Desert Storm ground war in lieu of AT in 1991. It took awhile for our unit to be whole again after Desert Storm. I moved to Florida at the end of 1992, and flew back to join the unit at Fort Drum in 1993. In Florida I did TDY for almost two years for with a local unit but they were tripled-booked for slots, so I remained officially with my NY unit. I was moved to the IRR, and the put my resignation in, I think it was 1995. I do have many pictures. I would love to find the original unit patch that was like a starburst.
