I joined the Marines out of H.S. at age 17, Went to US MCRD San Diego (BootCamp), Then Camp Pendleton ITR, Then Schools Bn on hold for class, never happened, Went to OJT Base security Bn; MP Co. Administrative office as MOS 0121 for 2 yr. active duty, then active reserves in Tulsa, OK. admin work for USMC Truck Co. In 1974-1975 I Also went to Spartan School of Aeronautics for aircraft mechanics license and at same time divorced and I raised my son Jason by myself and worked a full time job as a welder. Graduated school and tested and got my FAA Airframe & Powerplant license, went to work back home in Dubuque, Ia. Feb. 1976 then Iowa City flying service for four yr. then moved to Peoria, IL. 1980 to work for Byerly Aviation at the Peoria Intl. Airport, using my A&P license and I tested and got my next license for Inspection Authorization to inspect and sign off aircraft as airworthy or not. The marines would not change my MOS, and since I was trained and wanted to work in my aviation field, I decided to join the USNR in 1978, They promoted me to E-5 with my schooling and sent me to NAS Glenview, IL. Squadron VP-90. We had Orion P3A, B, and C's, 4 engine turboprop low wing aircraft's that's mission was enemy sub chasers. On our active duty training sessions, I have been at NAS Dallas, building and testing engines, Then I went to NAS Oahu, Hi, Then I was at Okinawa, Japan for two acdutra's, then twice at NAS Subic Bay, PI; Then two Acdutra's at Missawa, Japan. I worked in Peoria, IL. at Byerly aviation, made it to Chief Inspector, Retired in 1916 due to handicapped with back problems. Worked on all type of aircraft from single seat Pipers all the way up to Boeing 727-200, 737-400, 707, Balloons, helicopters, water aircraft, I ended my career in the USNR as an AD1 powerplants shop lead in early 1986. I am now retired from civilian life , 3 kids, yours, mine, and ours, second Wife for 41 yr. own home just outside Peoria, IL.
