Larry Harvey is from Detroit Michigan and is currently residing in Ottawa Illinois where he continues to serve others in recovery. He is a distinguished professional with more than 49 years of service in the field of behavioral health and recovery support. His career began 1977 with two decades of work in mental health as a Psychiatric Technician in the United States Air Force, where he served military personnel and their families with compassion and dedication for 20 years. Following his military service, Larry continued his mission in the civilian sector, dedicating over 29 years as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and earning recognition as an Internationally & Nationally Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor and a Nationally Certified Psychiatric Technician to this very day. His leadership roles included Program Director and Assistant Program Director positions with WestCare Foundation and Gateway Foundation, where he oversaw large-scale treatment programs, supervised clinical teams, and ensured quality care for thousands of clients annually. Larry’s expertise extends across program management, clinical supervision, training, and crisis response. He has been certified in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, developed training protocols for emergency and recovery staff, and provided counseling for both individuals and groups in substance use and mental health recovery. His work has touched the lives of countless individuals, helping them reclaim their dignity and build healthy, sober futures. Throughout his career, Larry Harvey has embodied the values of service, leadership, and compassion. His lifelong commitment to helping others heal from addiction and trauma makes him a fitting recipient of the Stars and Stripes in Recovery Award. Larry Harvey retired in 2021 and identifies himself as a blessed “MAN OF GOD”.
