Jennifer Etzel-Elaqad
I’m looking for the wounded point man my father, Gregory Earl Etzel, helped save on June 19, 1968, approximately 10 kilometers east of Lai Khe, Vietnam. My dad served with Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division (Black Lions), and received the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device for the rescue. The soldier’s name may have been Deiter or Dieter, and he may have been from Pennsylvania, around age 20–22. These details are unconfirmed. If you served with this unit or remember the incident, I would be grateful for any information.
