JAMES OMPS
I was assigned to the 515th when the unit was forming up for shipment to our duty post. We sailed on the USNS Upshure from the Oakland Army Terminal, Oakland, CA The unit disembarked in Naha, Okinawa where we went to work unloading and loading container cargo ships. Our specialty was transporting battle damaged heavy equipment from the Naha Port to a storage facility approximately 8 or 9 miles up the road. The 515th was a Platoon not a Company because of our designated specialty.
