Freddie Avila
Joined as an undesignated Seaman, commissioned the USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), stuck out and became a Postal Clerk, (PC). Left the good ship Ferry and headed to the USS Money Earnin' Mount Vernon (LSD 39) for two years. Then off to Rota, Spain for three years. Great duty station!! Then off to commission the USS Preble (DDG 88) in Boston, MA. Became a substance abuse counselor (SARP) for the next 6 years. First tour was as part of NMCSD Balboa and I was at 32nd St as a counselor. Then off to the good ship Nimitz as a counselor for three years. Left there in 2012 and reported to NAVSTA Everett to work back in my rate as an LS1 and working in the base Post Office. Retired in 2014. Back home in Williams, AZ now.
