Graduate of L.D.Bell 1968.Went to work at DallasFire Dept. In Jan 1969. Drafted Sept. 13 1969.Flew to Ft. Bliss. Went thru surgery after training. Went home for 14 days. Left to Ft. leonardwood. Went thru 2 mos. Had 14 days to get to next station.1st it was Alaska, then germany,Germany, cancelled.was to go home then be in Oakland for Vietnam in 3 days. I took 16 days at home. Went to Oakland for transit. Article 15 with 100 or more others who had same idea. Arrived in Saigon on March23,1970 assigned to 20th Eng Battalion(cbt) Sent to tahn cahn,LZ Oasis,to weigh Davies, then Dahto,back to LZ Oasis,pulled in to Plieku 30 days b4 leaving,continued to run 4 deuce mortar rds. Dynamite,ammo,as needed to outpost till days stepping on freedom bird.I got bored just waiting. Flew in to Ft. Louis. She'd there 4 days,eat steak every meal. Got on freedom bird to Dallas.Only two people on plane Another guy going to Houston and 4 stewardess. Nice welcome home.Got home,4 mos.ltr married. Moved to east Texas,Garden Valley. Moved to Vernon inherited a farm.9 and1/2 years,wife wanted divorce. I had been working for Vernon Fire Dept. Over 5 years.
