Ashby Franklin
Ashby Franklin, RA# other words a Volunteer. Joined US Army 1968. I enlisted with the help of my mother she signed for me I was 17.Those fellows needed my help, they were getting there ass kicked. So I trained at Fort Bragg. E-10-2 by the gas chamber. Left there after Basic went to Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, for AIT Combat Engineer. Left there for 3 week RVN training. After that they sent me to Germany 3rd ID 10th Engineers Mechanized in Bad Kissingen, because I had relative in Country in the Nam at the time. I sit it out for a few months. Then to that lovely country Vietnam, my first unit in Viet Nam was 20th Engineer Brigade 31st Engineer Battalion, then to my favorite Unit 11th ACR, the stuff that unit did in Nam is legendary I was with there Engineer unit 919th. After the Nam I went back to Germany this time to 54th Engineers Battalion in Wildflecken Germany I was not ready for that after Viet Nam. I loved every minute, except the black white issues we had over there at that time. I actually Loved the Army, I always had a understanding about what the rules were, and had no problem with them. Sometime other people try to twist rules around to take advantage of folks. But I learned that you must stand for what is right no matter what. I would still be in Viet Nam if they had not made me leave. It was a wonderful Job over all. And I did it well.
