ABOUT 20th Bomb Squadron
- World War I Origins: The 20th Bomb Squadron traces its lineage back to 1917, making it one of the oldest active bomb squadrons in the United States Air Force.
- First Combat Operations: The squadron was originally organized as the 20th Aero Squadron and flew bombing missions in France during World War I with the Dayton-Wright DH-4.
- Interwar Air Races: In the 1920s and 1930s, the 20th participated in notable air races and demonstrations, helping to advance military aviation tactics and technology.
- World War II Service: During World War II, the 20th Bomb Squadron flew the B-17 Flying Fortress and participated in strategic bombing campaigns over Europe, including the famous Schweinfurt raids.
