The 33rd Armored Division (33rd AD) was a unit of the United States Army formed during the post-World War II era as part of the Army National Guard. Originally constituted in 1946, the division was based primarily in Illinois and carried on the lineage of the 33rd Infantry Division, which had served with distinction in World War I and World War II. The 33rd AD participated in numerous training exercises and contributed to national defense during the Cold War, maintaining readiness for potential mobilization. In 1968, as part of a broader reorganization of the Army National Guard, the 33rd Armored Division was inactivated, and its units were realigned under other formations.
