• World War II Origins: The 69th Engineer Battalion was originally constituted on 25 February 1943 in the Army of the United States as Headquarters and Headquarters and Service Company, 69th Engineer Regiment (General Service). • Normandy Campaign: The unit participated in the Normandy Campaign following D-Day, helping build and repair critical infrastructure supporting the Allied advance in France. • Redesignations: The battalion underwent several redesignations, including being reorganized as the 69th Engineer Combat Battalion in 1943, and later as the 69th Engineer Battalion (Construction) in 1954. • Korean War Service: The battalion served in the Korean War, providing engineering support for the Eighth Army, constructing roads, airfields, and fortifications. • Vietnam War Deployments: The 69th Engineer Battalion deployed to Vietnam, where it supported combat operations by building base camps, airfields, and clearing jungle terrain. • Post-Cold War Reactivation: After periods of inactivation, the battalion was reactivated in 1992 at Fort Hood, Texas, and later assigned to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. • Operation Iraqi Freedom: The unit deployed multiple times to Iraq, conducting route clearance, construction, and infrastructure repair during Operation Iraqi Freedom. • Distinctive Unit Insignia: The battalion’s crest features a red embattled chevron representing engineering and combat readiness, and a gold castle symbolizing the Engineer Corps. • Motto – “Conildo et Pando”: The battalion’s motto, meaning "I Build and I Destroy," reflects its dual mission roles as combat engineers and builders. • Modern Missions: Today, the 69th Engineer Battalion continues to train and deploy in support of both combat and humanitarian missions, contributing to national defense and disaster relief efforts worldwide.
