The 37th Bomb Squadron, originally constituted in 1917, is one of the oldest units in the United States Air Force. The squadron saw action during World War I as an observation unit and later played a significant role in World War II, conducting strategic bombing missions in the European Theater. Reactivated during the Cold War, the 37th operated B-29, B-47, and B-52 bombers as part of America’s nuclear deterrent force. Currently, the squadron is assigned to the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, flying the B-1B Lancer in support of global strike operations.
