The 124th Signal Battalion was constituted on 1 August 1942 in the Army of the United States and activated at Camp Crowder, Missouri. The unit provided vital communications support for U.S. Army operations during World War II, participating in campaigns across Europe, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. After World War II, the battalion underwent several periods of inactivation and reactivation, eventually becoming part of the 4th Infantry Division. The 124th Signal Battalion continued to serve with distinction during the Vietnam War and in subsequent years, supporting the division's communications needs until its inactivation in 2006.
