The 3rd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment (3/8 INF) boasts a distinguished history as part of the U.S. Army's presence in Europe during the Cold War. Stationed in Mainz, Germany, under the 8th Infantry Division, the unit was tasked with defending NATO's central front against potential Warsaw Pact aggression. Throughout its deployment in Mainz, 3/8 INF participated in numerous training exercises and reinforced U.S.-German military cooperation.
